 | New record for Northern and Central Thailand including White-faced Plover! | |
Birdfinders new revised 2009 central and northern Thailand tour logged a record 381 species. Highlights were many but with the addition of the marshes and saltpans south of Bangkok, we were able to enjoy the critically-endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper together with Long-toed Stint, Great Knot and Nordmann’s Greenshank, whilst on a boat trip out to a sand spit we recorded not only Malaysian Plover but the newly-described White-faced Plover. Other highlights of the tour included both Black and Jerdon’s Baza, Mrs Hume’s and Silver Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Barred and Little Cuckoo-doves, five species of owl, Red-headed and Orange-breasted Trogon, five species of bee-eater including Blue and Red-bearded, four species of hornbill, an amazing eight species of barbet, Blue Pitta, seven species of minivet, no less than 18 species of bulbul, White-browed Shortwing, an amazing 12 species of Phylloscopus and four species of Seicercus warblers, Siberian Blue Robin, three species of forktail, a mouth-watering seven species of laughingthrush, Grey-headed and Spot-breasted Parrotbill, Giant Nuthatch and eight species of sunbird. Check out the new itinerary for this tour. The price remains unchanged for December 2010 so book early to avoid disappointment as we take a maximum of just eight clients on this tour. |

 | Birds galore in Sweden | |
The first Northern Hawk-owls have arrived at their wintering grounds in central Sweden and the forests are teaming with Two-barred, Parrot and Red Crossbills. It is probably the best year for crossbills in central Sweden since 2001. Mountain Ashes are carrying plenty of berries, which is giving hope for a good winter for Pine Grosbeaks and Bohemian Waxwings. The snow is falling and Siberian Jays, Spotted Nutcrackers, Grey-headed Woodpeckers, Hawfinches and Eurasian Bullfinches are drawn to our feeding stations. Join us in February 2010 in Sweden for some superb birding |

At Birdfinders we cater to all levels of ability and enthusiasm is more important than knowledge as our experienced leaders are always on hand to assist. Although all of our holidays are designed specifically for birdwatching, we stop wherever possible for other forms of wildlife and previous tour participants have been able to combine birds with their interests in mammals, butterflies, plants, insects etc. Furthermore, whilst the very nature of birdwatching dictates some early-morning starts to ensure that we see as many species as possible, we can frequently arrange for participants to take time off to relax or sightsee, providing that does not conflict with the itinerary of the tour.
All participants in Birdfinders tours will receive, in advance of the tour, a copy of a previous tour report (where available) or, a few weeks after returning, a copy of the current tour report (if a new tour). To keep costs down tour reports are not originated every year. However, currently we have over 120 tour reports, most available in pdf format, available on our website. We also have a list of photos from our tours – now over 2800 images! plus videos taken on many of our tours.
Participants also receive in advance a blank daily bird checklist for the tour, together with an information letter detailing helpful advice such as health requirements, what to bring, recommended reading, etc. At the end of each tour, a feedback form is provided so that tours can constantly be improved.
We can also arrange customised tours to selected countries. See our Custom Tours page or contact us. Also, keep an eye on our Future Tours page to see where we're planning on going to next.
We look forward to welcoming you on one of our tours in the near future.
